Healthcare sector is one, is directly connected to lives of people, hence there must not be any operational issues, everything should be well organized and structured. Hence, it becomes all the more essential for healthcare sector to focus on hospital operations and improve further in order to boost patient centricity, give quality treatment, and enhance productivity.

A multi-faceted approach that puts hospital and patient care at upmost importance for transformation efforts can help hospitals and health systems deliver better financially sustainable and patient oriented care.

Healthcare sector should actively participate in improvement efforts and be open to changes. The continual improvement not only facilitates operational excellence but also provides quality patient care, patients’ satisfaction, and staff satisfaction.

Hospital Operational Excellence deploys a variety of process improvement & change management concepts and approaches to increase operational efficiency and reduce clinical variability; ultimate objective being, to drive the total medical care cost down while improving care quality.

Team Faber has been invited to contribute in Economic Times and a series of articles published on ETHealthworld.com as a part of Operational Excellence in Healthcare series.

It started with – “How Operational Excellence Can Help the Healthcare Industry” and continued to leap further with unlocking – “True Potential of Hospitals with Operational Excellence”.

The need of the healthcare industry is optimization of processes and resources. Improving operations and efficiency will not only help the patients but could unlock the largest potential source of income for the organization.

Efficient way to Manage Inventory through Operational Excellence

One of the major challenges in the healthcare industry is to ensure that required supplies are readily available in right quantity at the right time. An effective and efficient inventory management system needs to be in place.

Further there is a necessity for building up quality and safety initiatives pervading health care. Although there is an extensive expansion occurring in the healthcare industry but the expansion is not equivalent to match the appropriate standards. The effective implementation of policies and proper enforcement of standards needs to be effected.

There has been a set of guidelines to maintain various operating standards at hospitals and healthcare service providers by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH). These guidelines shall aid in effective and better operations in healthcare industry or hospitals.

Almost every patient accesses the laboratory, so proper streamlining of diagnostic tools and protocols is required for the smooth functioning and to avoid cluttering. Emphasis should be on Laboratory Improvement – the Operational Excellence Way. This includes physical workplace management and proper information flow for optimal process flow and clutter free work environment, leading to better availability and quality for diagnostic tests.

Quality control practice is an inherent requirement of each and every sector, it applies to the healthcare domain as well to determine and channelize a proper delivery system. Quality management and error control are necessary for the hospital to devise reliable and efficient treatment procedure.
