Safety – one of the most underrated terms. Since years, the manufacturing industry has been facing safety mishaps. As per a report released by The British Safety Council in 2017, every year 48,000 workers die in the country due to occupational accidents, 24% of which are from the construction industry. On the basis of one of the surveys, in 2018, 121 industrial death of workers were reported in the top 13 companies from India.

Safety has been one of the highest draw-back for organizations in India. Every organization needs to understand the importance of its employee’s safety. They need to implement safety parameters for their employees, conduct training to increase safety awareness, conduct regular checks and audits to measure and identify the number of safety mishaps that takes place in their organization and find ways to reduce safety mishaps.

Few common workplace injuries include sprain, strain, muscle tear, soreness, pain, cuts, lacerations, and punctures. A few common reasons that cause these types of injuries include – overexertion, lifting of heavy objects, lowering or repetitive motion, contact with objects and equipment, slipping, falling and trips. These injuries lead to a huge loss of production hours every year that impact the productivity of the organization. Hence organizations need to understand that safety measures are as important as their turnover. If there are no safety parameters and frameworks in place then the safety mishaps will continue to occur thus affecting the productivity. In the long run, this will lead to a higher employee attrition rate as employees do not feel safe and comfortable.

No one wants to work in an unsafe place where there is no assurance or guarantees of one’s life. All the organizations should pledge on this national safety day to align their safety protocols with the necessary safety norms. Your employees are the heart of your organization. Let us together pledge to reduce the safety mishaps to as low as ZERO.
