Did you know the renowned Telecommunication company is also into manufacturing products for the Defence sector
Samsung is mostly known across the globe for its Mobile phones. But this Korean megacorporation owns a company Samsung Techwin, which is barely even known! This company is into making surveillance, aeronautics, optoelectronics, automation and weapons technology. Samsung first stepped into the electronics industry in the year 1969 with various electronics-focused divisions—they first manufactured black-and-white televisions. In the year 1979, the Techwin started producing cameras. But by 1987, they were also making helicopters, jet engines, and mobile artillery for the Korean army.
In the year 1997, the company made Korea’s first fighter jet, the KF-16. In the same year, it introduced the Samsung Kenox digital cameras in the Korean market. The aircraft was then handed over to the state-owned Korea Aerospace Industries. The company kept on manufacturing the camera and on the other hand, it was also manufacturing a K9 thunder which is a military Tank. Which had the capability to fire 155mm high-explosive, nuclear, anti-infantry projectiles at up to 25 miles (40km) away. The K9 travelled the field in tandem with the K10 Ammunition Resupply Vehicle (ARV), which was built on the same platform, carried up to 104 shells, and had a maximum transfer rate of 12 rounds per minute and so on.
In the year 2014, Samsung sold its holding stake in Techwin to Korean conglomerate Hanwha Group. In the 38 years of existence, it made innumerable defence weapons.
Hence, it’s good to have a well-charted vision and values as guidelines. Have we charted and communicated our vision and values to the team well?
