Culture is a distinct element in the organization that drives the growth and the performance of the organization. It is as important as a business strategy. A good work culture improves employee engagement, attracts workforce or talent, impacts employee satisfaction and affects the performance of the organization. Work culture is influenced by everything: leadership, management, workplace practices, policies, people, etc. Organizations should always define the Company’s work culture that they expect and not just let the workplace culture form naturally.
Workplace culture is how employees interact with each other, how decisions are made, how employees respond to change and most importantly how do they act when no one is watching them.
Organizations should work on workplace culture and not let it form naturally. This Transformation Tuesday, let us look at how organizations can strengthen work culture:
Think and develop a workplace culture
What works for other organizations may not work for you. Culture is inherent to the organization. Management cannot copy the culture of another organization. Management needs to understand the organization’s leadership, workforce, and dynamics. In a VUCA environment, use your judgment and assimilate the best practices with elements unique to your organization. Develop your own culture.
Reinforce pride at work
Employees should be proud to be a part of the organization. Pride is a feeling that spreads happiness so reinforce it. Organizations should nurture achievements and build memories and belongingness among the employees. This will bring the culture of ownership and togetherness in the organization.
Build connect and faith
Employees who have a connection and faith with the leaders or with peers will always go that extra mile. So, work on strengthening faith and belief over time. A workplace where there is deep connect and faith among teams will withstand difficult times.
Value diversity with pride
There are diverse function teams, office locations, and leadership personalities. Conflicts are bound to happen. But always welcome positive work culture. Value diverse perceptions and practices. Listen to all. Do the right thing based on the organization’s values. Stay agile. Be open to change. Adopt diversity with pride.
Nurture a growth mindset
Nurture a growth mindset in every employee. Support the journey of the employee and sincerely care for them. This will help them grow professionally and personally. It will help them be better individuals.
Good work culture will not only make organizations successful but will also make a strong impact on the employee’s life. But, remember one thing culture is always work in progress. It might or might not change. Organizations should make culture as important as a business strategy. It cannot be ignored and building the right culture is the most important responsibility of the organization.
