Lean manufacturing has attracted many eyeballs lately and has proved to be a useful tool for the manufacturers to garner profits and increase their revenue. Lean tools and techniques not only help the leadership in achieving benefits at the top levels, but also helps them in benefitting at lower levels as well. Many companies across the world have ingrained lean manufacturing into their manufacturing processes and have managed to make their organizational culture more efficient and productive. However, many people might complain that lean manufacturing and innovation does not go hand in hand and they face a block in their creative and innovation part.

In an ideal space, one would expect lean and innovation to align but it does not completely. However, many companies do manage to eliminate this tension between lean and creativity or innovation while some others may not.

Innovation will need more resources and funds to be researched and evaluated if it will be sustained in the market and will result in profitable returns or not. Whereas, lean focuses on increasing the efficiency, quality and productivity of the manufacturing processes of an organization. It is here where organizations might feel a difficulty in innovating. However, one should be very clear that lean do no stop anyone from being creative or innovative.

Innovative ideas can flow from anywhere if given the chance and opportunities. Also, the leadership should trust their employees and should always encourage them to use their talents and potential to the fullest to have optimum results. This may also result in organizations gathering some critical data for the innovation to live and stand through the competing markets of 21st century.

Once the ideas and concept are finalized and worked upon, lean can again come into play. In fact, lean can a play a very crucial role in building the product line right from the bottom after the primitive stages of the process. It can help the product in gaining the right potential and to sustain the competitive advantage in the market. Lean can also help the organizations in identifying new markets for the product as well as improve the quality function for the product gradually.
