Empathy is something that the world today needs the most. It is something that is being searched by most of the employees in a leader. As humans, we would always wish that as we work for the betterment of the organization, the leader should understand that employees have a life beyond the organization. Leaders should support the employees who are facing issues managing work and home.
Employees look forward to an empathetic leader as they need someone especially their boss to understand what they are going through. In this Transformation Tuesday, let us talk about why it is necessary to become an empathetic leader;
- Improves leader – employee relationship
When a leader becomes an empathetic leader, an employee looks up to him expecting that he will understand the situation the employee is going through. When a leader understands the situation of the employee and helps the employee take corrective actions, he is building a bridge of understanding between him and his employees.
- Improves productivity
When the employee feels understood and being listened to, he/she tends to make sure the bond that they have with their leader becomes stronger. The best way to do this is by making sure they are working hard to help and achieve the desired results and thus impress the leader. As this continues, the employee ends up increasing productivity which in turn helps the organization grow.
- Improves organizations credibility
The leader is the face of the organization. Without a doubt, every firm needs great employees who can help the firm achieve its desired reputation in the market along with the goals and the targets. But, if the leader is mean, it will leave a bad impression on the mind of the employees. And once this happens, the employees start conveying this message amongst their organizational circle. Hence a lot of people start seeing the leaders from a negative point of view. It is only a matter of time until these employees switch the organization. Every new organization these employees will go, they will share this negative experience that they had in their previous organization.
And once this has spread out, the decrement of the credibility of the organization is only a matter of time. This is why being an empathetic leader is key to an excellent organizational reputation.
Apart from this, every employee an organization has is definitely going through some hard phase of their life. Which is why it is very important for an organization to have empathy towards their employees and understand that they are not machines. They are as much of a human as much their leaders are. A leader must understand that just like a leader needs time for their personal life, their employee also needs the same.
