3 ways to be a focused leader

A focused leader needs to develop focus. He/she needs to focus on one thing and filter out interruptions. A leader needs to focus on three aspects though – focus on self, focus on others, and focus on the broader external world. Every leader needs to nurture awareness of these three aspects in abundance but there needs to be a balance as well.

A failure to focus on any one of the above-mentioned parameters leads to imbalance. If a leader fails to focus on self, then there will be a lack of a clear sense of goals and aims. whether the leader fails to focus on others, then he/she will be clueless about the teams or staff. If the leader fails to focus on the broader external world then he/she will fail to devise a strategy, innovate, and manage the team.

So, start practicing to focus on the three parameters: self, others, and the broader external world

Focus on self

One should be aware of the self. Leaders who can pay attention to their inner selves can get more resources and make them work together for better results. A focused leader should treat others the same way that the leader wants to be treated.  A leader should be capable of hearing his/her own inner voice.

Focus on others

By focus, we mean leaders need to practice empathy. Leaders that focus on others are the most liked ones. With empathy leaders need to understand another person’s viewpoints, understand how others feel, and sense what another person needs from the leader.

Focus on the wider world

Leaders need to not only focus on themselves and others but also need to focus on the external world. Such leaders are visionaries. They can guess the results of the decisions taken today. Leaders that are open to focus on the wider world, can make better and improved strategies, they can innovate and work on the development of the organization.

So, to be a good leader you should have command on yourself, you should be in touch with your inner feelings. You should be aware of how others in the team see you, you should understand what others need from you. You should not be biased and take note of the wider world as well to strategist and innovate.
