Have you ever wondered why you can’t just take the day off? There are numerous responses. It could be due to a large amount of work, or it could be due to poor time management. Most of the time, you may believe it is due to a lack of work, but the majority of the time, it is due to your inability to manage your workload.

This Transformation Tuesday, we’ll go over some tips for managing your work within the time constraints. If you want to stay ahead of your competitors, the most important skill to develop is time management. Here are some key habits to cultivate in order to manage projects effectively.

1. Prioritize First:

This is the most underappreciated habit and one that we often overlook while working for a long time. However, this basic concept of deciding priority is a must-do task if you want to get things done. How do you decide what is necessary? The dilemma that comes to your mind is, “What is the one thing that gets you the most revenue or profit?”

In today’s VUCA world, you may have to decide on your priority every hour and be adaptable and prepared to compromise. “Time management is an oxymoron,” John Maxwell once said. We have no control over time, and the clock continues to tick regardless of how we live our lives. Primary consideration should always be given to time management and listing down priority jobs to make the most of the time we have.

2. Control Interruptions:

This is the ultimate key to time management. We are often distracted from our targeted goals when we allow interruptions. Being constantly interrupted is the most difficult challenge, but to be honest, we tolerate it. For example, “Do you have a minute?” someone asks as they walk into your office. You say, “Sure, come on in,” because you’re a nice person. However, it can be the most unwise move. You’ve now given your time away.

Instead, if you politely manage them by saying, “I am in the middle of something—can you come back in an hour?” By doing so, you’re doing something brilliant here: you’re negotiating for time.

3. Block the Calendar:

Our elders always tell us that we should plan ahead of time. It is not because you lack vision, but because you have to plan your way to achievement. It is the best practice to always plot down your tasks and deadlines before the beginning of any project. Get your calendar out (paper or electronic). Schedule your time off on a calendar. You understand that if you don’t plan ahead of time and limit your time, you will never have time off. You will work every day for a long time.

Thus, managing time is the greatest achievement for every professional who is trying to excel in their career. Effective Work Management can deliver great productivity, less stress, a professional reputation, and greater opportunities in your career.
