Change is a very old phenomenon. Change has what created worlds and also destroyed them. The world we live in today came into existence with such a similar phenomenon. The changed behavior between to particles which lead to birth to the first of what we today call as humans. Change is what has created opportunities for who embraces it and creates problems for who resists it.  Change is what leads to the evolution of new civilizations and extinction of who failed to predict and act upon it.

But change has much more positive effects than negatives. Change in people’s thinking and working capabilities has brought advances in many sectors such as technology, healthcare and many more. But none of these changes happened overnight. They all had their challenges and struggles but had one thing in common, the willingness of a single person to bring change.

The Indian freedom struggle began with the willingness of single person Mahatma Gandhi.

Today we live in the enlightened world due to the willingness of a single person Thomas Alva Edison to build an electric light bulb.

The one thing that we all are hooked to our cell phone was invented due to the willingness of a single person to change something, Alexander gram Bell.

These examples clarify that change is more about you than them. If you want to change something you are the one who has to stand up and start walking towards it. People may join you in your journey you have to take the first step. Mahatma Gandi took the first step and his followers joined him towards quit India movement but it all began with his first step.

With change, there should be accountability and responsibility. When you promote change you should not be dependent on the team or the people around. You should take the initiative and work towards the change for improvement. Organizations should work on imbibing the value of change management for improvement. They should work on the behavioral aspect of the manpower. They should help to imbibe the sense of ownership among the employees so that they accept the change for better and for improvement.

Secondly, they should design an objective based Performance Management System which not only helps to measure individual performance but also track the performance at the organization as well as department level. This brings in a lot of accountability in the team and helps them to work towards improvement.

Thirdly they should help them to design structured rewards and recognition system to ensure there is motivation and to ensure that such change initiatives do not fail.

So let us join hands together to be the change we wish to see around us and not wait for the change to happen.
