We usually say that employees act as the pillar of the organization. Yes, this is true but the foundation is the leader, constantly motivating, guiding and enabling their workforce with continuous training and development.

Having said this and accepting the importance of a good leader, mentor we should not forget that with the high speed changes taking place the leader is the one who needs to adapt himself to the same, even before his employee accept and adapt to the same. Thus there need to be a strong leadership strategy as a base to cope with the upcoming challenges and initiate the process of development. Here are few key pointers which can help formulate a good development strategy for the leaders:

  • Formulate Leadership strategy focusing on the organizational strategy: The basic step should be formulating the leadership strategy on the basis of the organizational strategy. The leaders need to be identified to execute their strategies and build recruiting approaches considering the need for the same.
  • Implant change initiative throughout the organization: Change initiative strategy should be embedded throughout the organization. Covering the entire organization for initiating change is a must. Merely focusing on a particular part of the organization, a particular individual or just a group of individuals won’t be helpful to achieve success. Therefore the entire organization should be covered in the process to embed change.
  • Contextual Leadership Programs based on the need: Leadership programs should be designed focusing upon the needs. Organizations should instill programs around current business and strategic issues. This would develop employee engagement and more employee involvement.
  • Encourage by connecting to a purpose: Individuals feel more motivated when connected to the purpose or mission. When there is a purpose for doing something there occurs a sense of motivation attached to do it. On achieving the desired results there occurs a sense of satisfaction. This again steers to work better in the future.

The above points can lead to successful organizational initiatives. Thus a basic strategy should be formulated depending upon the organizational goals. A strong leadership strategy can help initiate the change process for fostering growth and development.
