A good employee will always complete the assigned task on time and as per the quality standards defined. However, doing only the assigned task does not help us to advance into good career growth. If you want to be exceptionally good, then you must go beyond your job role and responsibilities. This Transformation Tuesday, let us look at ways and means to become an exceptional employee:
Two-job mindset
An exceptional employee will always have two jobs mindset – one is the job role that he is assigned to work on and the other is what he chooses to do beyond the assigned work. An exceptional employee will work beyond teams and departments. They will help other teams and departments with the work that otherwise they would not have done. They show true commitment to the organization. Such employees display teamwork and dynamics at the workplace.
Open to pick up new skills
An employee is hired because he or she has the necessary skill set to do the job. An exceptional employee will challenge himself or herself to take up new tasks and learn the new skills required to complete those tasks. Exceptional employees know that when they get out of their comfort zones, it will not remain unnoticed. Learning a new skill displays the commitment to challenge the self for the organization.
Ask for more
An exceptional employee would not be afraid to ask for more responsibilities. But at the same time, one should not overload oneself such that it affects your work and your ability to complete work with perfection. When you ask for more work, you might get a chance to work on higher-ranking projects.
The key to moving up the ladder in professional life lies in taking up roles and responsibilities beyond your job description, it happens when you stretch yourself beyond your normal role without stepping on anyone else’s toe in the process.
