Connecting the Dots – Leaders to Strategic Leaders

In today’s scenario, it is extremely important for every organization to have leaders who are expert with strategic excellence and have a holistic view. An organization, should try to develop their existing leaders into strategists.

Every organization has leaders for various functions, so it is always advantageous to develop those leaders into strategic leaders. This will act as an advantage to the organization, cause every function leader knows, exactly what their teams are capable of doing, and they know the strengths of the organisation very well. They are best to analyse which strategies will enhance their organization, and they are the best people to know, how to put those strategies into actions, which will help them reach their respective goals. This Tuesday let us look at how leaders can become strategists?

Below are the 4 steps, as to how can we make our leaders as strategist:

  • Build a connection between the business strategies and leadership strategies:  ‘Leaders are not born, they are created!’, this phrase is what needs to be followed. The organization should first select the kind of leader they want. There should be number of shortlisted candidates for the strategic leadership position
  • Let the change seep in the whole organization: Imbibe the culture of change management in the whole organization. Align all the employees in the organization with the news goals and metrics. Engage all the employees in the change initiatives. Only when all are aligned then can we achieve success in the change initiative.
  • Train the leaders with relevant programs: Every leader needs to be trained with the duties that they are supposed to do, or the strategies they have to plan and implement. They just cannot be put on field to bring the changes. They need to be given information and training both theoretical and practical, such that it helps them to understand and decide exactly which strategies to implement for growth.
  • Develop in the leaders a higher aim and goal: Any organization or individual works better when they are given a higher aim to reach. Like the quotes go, ‘Aim for the stars you will at least reach the sky.’ So, if every leader is given an aim which is higher than their personal aim, they will make it their mission to achieve the aim, thus enable strategies such that they work for the growth and development of the organization.

Lets work towards making leaders who will face the challenges in this fast changing global economy and respond effectively to the constantly evolving business opportunities and challenges and thus pave a path to sustainable growth. So let’s embrace the opportunities and challenges strategically to sustain growth.
